Yesterday around 2 p.m in the town centre one more horrific drama against the strays of Sarajevo occurred. Unknown persons with purebred fighting dogs, pit bulls and sStaffordshire bull terriers, dogs reported to be used in dog fights, set their dogs against abandoned dogs and strays. At least four of the strays died from injuries caused by the attacks, others are missing or wounded.

People in the neighbourhood are known to be ordering the killing of stray dogs. We hope that next time will not hurt someone’s child. Anyone who treats animals like this today, tomorrow will treat people in the same way,” said a neighbour who witnessed the event.

The case was reported to the local police authorities. Residents are hoping that this time they will do their job because they are afraid for their own safety.

Someone took a video of some of the attack, with one of the men involved clearly visible and flinging a large tree branch at the strays:

What is additionally sad is that these dogs come from a pack fifteen dogs Marianne’s Dog Food Bank are helping with food and demodex treatment.  They were just beginning to grow hair and respond to the demodex treatment.

Marianne Søndergaard states: “I have arranged for the surviving dogs to have a place where they can be safe for a few days. I pray things are well for the people looking for them and that I will have news tomorrow morning.”

Assistance is needed to help the survivors. If you can help please donate via Paypal directly to MDFB at donation@mariannesdogfoodbank.org and mark for ‘Dogs surviving Sarajevo Massacre’.
