The first part of Lilly’s story is here.
Lilly was admitted to King Pension on Thursday night. This is what Almir Kuduz, owner and manager wrote:
“Beautiful dog, warm colors of fur and eyes, slowly losing control of the body. As the dog arrived it remained in an unnatural jerky position, with a twisted neck and head. Wide open eyes of fear of the unknown. from himself and what he’s going through perhaps.
Do not be fooled by ‘Lilly’s’ thick and long fur, because the dog is only 21.4 kg.
I offered food and ‘Lilly’ just turned away. And then, ‘Lilly’ ate several grains from my hand. This was the beginning of our coming together. ‘Lilly’ relaxed a little and a few times used his long tongue to pick out food from my palm … and then I stopped and I felt fear.
While he chewed the food and used his jaw muscles, his eyes were simply disappearing into his skull. Every effort he made was pulling muscles in his eye sockets – so deeply the eyes could not be seen at all. They remained two holes.
His body is almost no liquid at all! He was immediately transferred to the examination table, and plugged into an infusion. Large quantities. In the infusing we put the whole pharmacy, vitamins, minerals, medicines … almost two whole bottles went into his veins. While the infusion drippid I scratched my “Lilly” in the stomach and … hmm … My palm is touched irrefutable evidence that Lilly is a boy.”
‘Lilly’ will be renamed soon. Here is a video that Almir took of this beautiful dog. It broke my heart.
Update December 2, afternoon: Lilly is getting corticosteroids (Medrol 16 mg), Aneurin inj, (B12), antibiotics, Rimadyl, Ringer solution with Duphalyte iv twice a day, Adapted food (Royal Canine Recovery), massage and the whole list of additional body support. But he is, so far, not improving. Almir Kuduz is trying to stabilise him.
Update: December 22: from Almir Kuduz “Lilly is in critical condition and I am not sure if he will survive at all. He can not eat, drink, walk … He is VERY critical. He gets vet exam every day and therapy twice a day. We are doing EVERYTHING to bring him back. I can ensure you that I am giving all of myself to keep him alive. He reminds me on my first dog, when I was a kid. So … it’s not just a “dog” to me (on the other hand – which one is). He’s much more than that and I am sitting with him for hours and hours. Talking to him. Feeding him from my hand. I simply love him very much and I will NOT give up on him. It’s personal now.”
‘Lilly’ is just one of hundreds of suffering strays in Sarjevo. Please help them by making a small donation to the animal activists that do what they can to feed and rescue them.

UPDATE December 7: Lilly is still with us. Almir says he has stabilized, but that it will be a long road to recovery. I understand that dogs who suffer from such advanced cases of distemper rarely recover without some neurological damage. But maybe Lilly will be lucky. Please send prayers and healing.
UPDATE January 1: I’m so sorry to say that Lilly had to be put to sleep yesterday morning. More details here.

This site is dedicated to Vučko. Read his story and don’t let him have suffered and died in vain. Please help the stray dogs and cats in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The situation there is utterly dire, Vučko is but one amongst many horrifically abused animals. Go here to find out how to help them. Money is needed for food, medicine and foster housing. Even just one dollar or one euro will help.
How is “Lilly” doing? Still here with you? Thank you for being by this dogs side. There may be fear in his eyes, but you are now this dogs ‘familiar face” I wish a world of strength for this dog, and for you, to help this dog fight to survive…..
